  • For most households, I recommend pumping every 3 to 5 years. If you have a large family or an older system, you might need it sooner. Regular pumping is the only way to prevent solids from escaping into your drain field, which can lead to thousands of dollars in repair costs.

  • No. Unlike many corporate companies, I do not charge a "hose fee" for standard residential setups. If I can get my truck within a reasonable distance of your tank, the price is the price.

  • My standard service is a flat rate that includes:

    • Complete pumping of a standard residential tank (up to 1,500 gallons).

    • A visual inspection of the tank, baffles, and lids.

    • Proper disposal of waste at a licensed facility.

    • Basic site cleanup (I treat your yard like it’s my own).

  • At Smells Like Money Septic, I believe in straight talk. My standard residential septic pumping is a flat $400. However, there are a few specific situations where costs can change. I will always discuss these with you before I start the work.

    • Lid Locating & Digging: If your tank lids are buried and you aren't sure where they are, I offer electronic locating and digging services. If I have to spend significant time locating and excavating the lids, an additional labor fee may apply.

    • Excessive Hose Length: My standard price covers most residential setups. If your tank is located an extreme distance from where the truck can safely park (usually over 100 feet), there may be a small additional charge for the extra labor and equipment involved.

    • Heavy Solids/Neglected Tanks: If a tank hasn't been pumped in 10+ years, the waste can become extremely thick (sludge). This requires "back-flushing" and extra time to break down the solids so they can be pumped out safely.

    • Filter Cleaning: If your system has an effluent filter that is completely clogged and requires deep cleaning or replacement, there is a small fee for that specific service.

    • Emergency/After-Hours Service: Calls requiring immediate response outside of standard business hours or on Sundays may carry a premium "Emergency Trip" fee.

  • WNo. I focus 100% of my time and equipment on maintenance, pumping, and emergency services. This allows me to stay available for homeowners who need immediate help.

  • Baby wipes (even the "flushable" ones) and grease do not break down like biological waste. They clog hoses and require me to spend extra time cleaning my equipment and the tank to ensure the job is done right.

  • Signs Your Septic System Needs Service

Your septic system usually gives you a few "warning shots" before it fails completely. Catching these early can save you thousands in repairs. If you notice any of the following, it’s time to call for a pump-out:

    • Slow Drains and Toilets: If your sinks are draining slowly or your toilets are "gurgling" when you flush, there is likely a blockage or the tank is at capacity.

    • Soggy Spots in the Yard: If the grass over your tank or drain field is unusually green, spongy, or has standing water (even when it hasn’t rained), your system is struggling to process waste.

    • Unpleasant Odors: Foul smells near the tank, the drain field, or coming up through your indoor drains are a clear sign that gases are backing up.

    • Sewage Backup: This is the emergency stage. If you see dark water or waste backing up into your tubs or toilets, stop using water immediately and call for emergency service.

    • Lush, Green Grass: If one patch of your lawn looks like a golf course while the rest is dry, your septic tank might be leaking "fertilizer" into the soil.

    • It’s Been Over 3 Years: If you can’t remember the last time you saw a septic truck in your driveway, you are due for a maintenance pump-out regardless of symptoms.
